In the spirit of a painter painting a self-portrait, the author reveals a heap of old memories, drawing a clear portrait that overlaps like a water-color painting and a motion picture from her dreamlike childhood in Kaeseong in the 30¡¯s to her 20¡¯s in 1950¡¯s, war-ravaged Seoul. In this way fragments of the author¡¯s past works both appear and are reworked, such that their autobiographical aspects reappear perfectly in the beginning, middle, and end.

    This is a collection of short stories which include such major works of Yi Chong-Jun as Canto del oeste coreano, La luz del Sonido (The Light of Sound), El peregrino de Sonhakdong (Seonhak-dong Wanderer), and others. In his short stories, which are rich with the strong emotions of the southern provinces of Korea, Yi Chong-Jun provides a description which combines the Korean idea of ¡°Han,¡± a sort of stifling feeling of sadness, with the beautiful nature of Korean and ¡°Chang,¡± which is a traditional Korean rhythm. As Canto del oeste coreano (Seopyunjae) has already been made into a movie, it is expected that this work will increase interest in Korean literature among Spanish speakers. Especially as it was the recipient of the Spanish publisher Trotta¡¯s Publishing Award, it is expected that the advertising campaign will have twice the usual success.

Set in the time period of post-independence and leading up to the Korean war, this Literary Award in 1996.
